Elected and appointed officials from ten parishes gathered on Thursday, August 8, 2013, for a meeting at the Natchitoches Events Center in Natchitoches, LA. Natchitoches Parish hosted the meeting for members of the Police Jury Association. In addition to Natchitoches Parish, Region IV includes Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Claiborne, DeSoto, Lincoln, Red River, Sabine and Webster.
Bossier Parish's Wanda Bennett was elected Region IV President for the upcoming year. Bossier Parish will host next year's meeting. Also of Bossier Parish, Cindy Dodson, was elected to serve as Secretary/Treasurer. Kenneth Ebarb of Sabine Parish was elected as Vice President. Glenn Benton of Bossier Parish was re-elected to serve as Region IV's State Executive Board Member.
Current Region IV President Rick Nowlin from Natchitoches Parish presided over the meeting. Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame Foundation President and CEO Lisa Babin was the guest speaker. Babin told attendees that Natchitoches was the perfect location for the Sports Hall of Fame Museum because Natchitoches is already a tourist destination; she said this gives people one more reason to visit the historic city. Babin also told about the museum's structure, what visitors will find in the museum, the process of becoming inducted and much more.
PJAL President Melvin Haymon of Vernon Parish invited those in attendance to come to the upcoming convention in Baton Rouge. He also told attendees he had a bit of a history with Natchitoches because he and wife, Barbara, had once resided in the parish. He also thanked officials for their commitment to public service for their communities. PJAL Executive Director, Roland J. Dartez, also addressed those in attendance for their continued support to the Police Jury Association and their constituents.He also gave a detailed account of the PJAL's accomplishments during the recent legislative session. Furthermore, Dartez addressed a few issues for the future legislative session. Bill Altimus, former PJAL Executive Board member and current Bossier Parish Administrator, provided closing remarks.
