Region III Meeting:
- New President Elected -
Elected and appointed officials from nine parishes gathered on Wednesday, August 16, 2012, for a meeting at the West Baton Rouge Community Center in Port Allen, LA. West Baton Rouge Parish hosted the meeting for members of the Police Jury Association. In addition to West Baton Rouge Parish, Region III includes Assumption, Iberia, Iberville, Lafayette, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Martin, and St. Mary.
Guy Cormier of St. Martin Parish was elected Region III President for the upcoming year, along with Russell Long of Pointe Coupee Parish as Region III Vice President. In addition, St. Martin's Lacy Laperouse was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Guy Cormier was also re-elected to serve as Region III's State Executive Board Member.
Current Region III President Riley Berthelot, Jr., from West Baton Rouge Parish presided over the meeting. US Congressman Bill Cassidy addressed members of the Region III Meeting. Cassidy praised the work of local officials and commended them for their service to the public. He also spoke to members about the impact of national debt and tough economic times.
PJAL President Gerald "Mike” McLeod of Beauregard Parish also addressed the crowd. He thanked those in attendance for their continued support to the Police Jury Association and their constituents. He also invited attendees to the upcoming PJAL Convention in February and spoke of the renewed interest in Veterans Affairs. In addition, Police Jury Association Executive Director Roland Dartez encouraged members to continue working hard for local issues. He also gave a legislative update of the PJAL's many accomplishments during the 2012 Legislative session.
